Do not offer to handle aspects of a project in which you cannot control the quality and outcome.

This is often a lesson learned the hard way, but without a doubt an invaluable one. Essentially it means that if you take responsibility for the end result of a particular part of a project which you do not control, you could very easily find yourself in a compromising position. Not good.
